HEPA refers to a High Efficiency Particulate Air Filter which removes particles from the air. It is more effective than an ordinary air filter and is often used to filter the air when an individual has a sensitivity to small particles such as pollen, animal gander and dust.

Typically an HEPA is located in the furnace room and is connected to the central heating system. It is particularly effected when used with a forced air heating system as it removes the particles from the air before they are circulated through out the house by the heating system.
